The Planning Service staff facilitates public processes and provides
technical assistance to the public and various boards and commissions.
The department focuses on issues related to city growth and development
applications. This often results in recommendations to the City
Plan Commission, Hearing Examiner, Design Review Committee, or the City
Council.

Kendall Yards
The Kendall Yards
Preliminary Plat and Planned Unit Development (PUD) were approved by the
City of Spokane Hearing Examiner
in 2006. An updated plan, which reduces density and building massing and
scale, has been submitted to the City Hearing Examiner for review of the
proposed amendments to the approved plans. For more information about

Provided below is the
draft Planning Services Department Review of Kendall Yards Application
for Amendments to Approved Kendall Yards PUD and Preliminary Plat File
Number: Z2006-06-PP/PUD. This document contains comments on the proposed
amendments that were received from city departments and other agencies.
This report has been submitted to the Hearing Examiner. The
Hearing Examiner will be reviewing the comments related to the changes
to the approved project as proposed by the applicant. Following
review of those comments and reviewing the proposed changes to the
approved
Kendall Yards PUD/preliminary plat, the Hearing
Examiner will make a determination regarding whether the proposed
changes are substantial enough to result in the need for a public
hearing. If a hearing is required by the Hearing Examiner, public
notice will be provided and public testimony will be accepted during the
public comment period.

Shoreline Master Program Update Status
The
Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) approved the Shoreline
Master Program, with conditions, in a
letter to Mayor Verner dated February 1, 2010.
The City of Spokane has two options for responding to
Ecology’s Findings and Conclusions. Pursuant to WAC 173-26-120(7)(b),
within thirty days, the local government may either agree to the
proposed changes or submit an alternative proposal.
Planning Services staff will be assisting City Council in
preparing a response to Ecology’s Findings and Conclusions. There will be an opportunity for further public testimony.
