The “Short Course on Local Planning” is designed to provide basic education about land use planning to the citizens of Washington.  It is being coordinated and hosted by the Washington State Department of Commerce and co-hosted by Washington Cities Insurance Authority.

The speakers will include a land use attorney and planners and topics covered will include an overview of the legal basis of planning in Washington State, an overview of comprehensive planning (and involving citizens in the process), and the tools and techniques available for implementing a comprehensive plan, while maintaining good working relationships among the Planning Commission, local elected officials, and professional staff.

The Short Course is geared to those new to local planning either planning commissioners or elected officials.  There is no charge for the short course.  A Short Course on Local Planning Manual can be found at http://www.commerce.wa.gov/site/395/default.aspx

 Kendall Yards

The Kendall Yards Preliminary Plat and Planned Unit Development (PUD) were approved by the City of Spokane Hearing Examiner in 2006. An updated plan, which reduces density and building massing and scale, has been submitted to the City Hearing Examiner for review of the proposed amendments to the approved plans. For more information about the changes to the PUD application click here to read the Narrative and the Exhibits that are currently under review by the City of Spokane and other reviewing agencies.
